Remember About the Phaseout of R-410A AC Refrigerant

The phaseout of R-410A AC refrigerant has several dates, including:

  • January 1, 2025: Manufacturers will no longer be allowed to import or produce self-contained HVAC systems that use R-410A.  Any remaining inventory will begin to become scarce.
  • January 1, 2026: HVAC Contractors will no longer be allowed to install R-410A products.

Act now to replace your R-410 system to avoid higher equipment costs for R-32 systems. Inventory levels will begin to decline rapidly come January 1, 2025.

Rest assured, if you’re purchasing a R-410A system while supplies last, we will be able to repair it for its expected lifespan. The current phaseout on R-410A lasts well into 2037 according to the phase down schedule enshrined in the AIM Act (Dec, 27,2020). Since most air conditioners’ life expectancy is 10-15 years, the system you bought this year will be able to be repaired for years to come.

Upgrade to an AC System That Uses R-32 Refrigerant

R-32 refrigerant has gained popularity as an environmentally friendly alternative in HVAC systems because of its low global warming potential (GWP) compared to traditional refrigerants like R-410A. It’s energy efficient, cost-effective and offers better heat transfer, making it a preferred choice for modern AC systems.

While mildly flammable, safety standards and guidelines have been updated to ensure safe handling and installation. Looking forward, the industry will likely see increased adoption of R-32 as part of broader efforts to phase out high-GWP refrigerants, aligning with global sustainability goals and regulatory mandates aimed at reducing climate impact.

Here are the benefits of upgrading your old air conditioner to an AC system that uses R-32 refrigerant:

  • Zero Ozone Depletion .
  • 1/3 GWP of HFC 410A.
  • Superior energy efficiency .
  • High refrigeration capacity & thermal conductivity .
  • Low pressure drop.
  • Single component refrigerant easy to handle and recover.
  • Low toxicity.
  • Readily available (R-32 is used in the manufacture of R-410A which is a blend of 50% R-32 & 50% R-125.
